Trust is an important element of human life. We need trust for ourselves and societies to develop – for every aspect of life from child development to intimate and work related relations, from the acquisition of knowledge, to the conduct of political affairs.

The New Zealand philosopher Annette Baier (1929–2012) argued that a distinguishing mark of trust is that when we trust we are vulnerable but we accept our vulnerability. When we trust others, we expect them to act in ways that are not harmful to us. We believe that they are persons capable of reliable action and integrity, well motivated, with concern and respect for others.

The exhibition “And I Trust You” takes this thought about vulnerability as a starting point and deals with the topic of trust from a queer-feminist perspective. The role of caring and trust plays a crucial role especially for those that are living their lives outside the so-called social norms and roles. The show brings together more than 30 international artists that look at possibilities to widen the concept of normality in relationships and societies and to find ways of deepening the understanding of ourselves and others.

The exhibition combines works from the collections of Timo Miettinen and Florian Peters-Messer. For both of them art has been an important bridge for breaking stereotypes given by society and family.
