Visits and guided tours are possible every Saturday between 12:00 and 18:00.

Mist is not quite rain and not quite fog. Neither here nor there, it is not so dense as to appear as a physical presence, yet is noticeable enough to register as an amorphous mass. Mist exists almost indefinably everywhere, being not only around us, but also within us.

Finnish artist Josefina Nelimarkka has long been engaged in attempting to recreate or suggest the conditions and compositions of such delicate and transient weather effects. Clouds can manifest as both experiences – of flying through them, or walking among their hazy forms – and as natural phenomena – made up not only of complex chemical formulations, but of the current, historic and possible future states of the world. Nelimarkka’s exhibition, entitled  Wihin Mist, attempts to put the viewer physically and mentally inside this indeterminate space, to understand its constituent parts and explore its enigmatic edges.

Josefina Nelimarkka (b. 1982) is a multidisciplinary artist working between London and Helsinki. In her site-sensitive installations, she explores atmospheric phenomena and perception, combining artistic and scientific research. Through diverse materialities and technologies, her subtle works are rooted in experientiality and transform with the conditions of weather and environmental data – creating multiple ways of sensing and being present. She has graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki (2017) and Royal College of Art, London (2016).
